China’s No. 1 film star asks equality for youth

Washington (UP) –
Yung Wang, China’s foremost screen star, said today that the youth of China will fight until the last Japanese is driven from Chinese soil, but must have assurances they will not be “cheated” in the post-war world.

Miss Yung, who flew here from Chungking to participate in the International Student Assembly, said China’s youth wants equality with other nations when the war is won.

Vachris firm awarded War Department job

Washington –
The War Department today announced awarding of construction contracts ranging from $1,000,000 to $5,000,000 each, including one to Charles F. Vachris, Inc., of Brooklyn, for water, electric, gas and sewerage systems in Middlesex County, New Jersey.

Soldier fatally stabbed in row with Negro

Trenton, New Jersey –
Army Sgt. Matthew J. Pishkey of Gary, Indiana, died in McKinley Hospital today from stab wounds inflicted yesterday day by an unknown Negro.

In company with Sgt. Ray F. Hodgens, Pishkey was walking on North Montgomery St. early yesterday to the bus terminal en route to Fort Dix when they engaged in an altercation with the Negro. In the scuttle, Sgt. Pishkey was stabbed in the right side of the throat with a knife. Two blood transfusions given by soldiers at Fort Dix failed to save his life.
