What were some of the ways that the waring nations tried to protect their archives, national treasures, or valuable artifacts?

Conversely, what happened to the treasures and artifacts of countries like Poland, France, Greece, Yugoslavia, etc. once they surrendered?

For example, I know Britain sent many items overseas to Canada and I heard that the KMT transported many items around rural China in “convoys” to keep them away from the Japanese. I imagine that Germany and Italy kept many of their possessions in underground shelters, the Soviets probably moved a lot of items east like they did with their factories, while conquered countries probably lost many treasures from wartime destruction and plundering.

Poland was a Romanian ally and we (Romania) signed a treaty with them called the Cordon Sanitaire. In 1939, with the war raging on, the Polish leadership and some artifacts & treasures were dispatched through Romania and sent by ship to the United Kingdom.

There’s also the Romanian Bridgehead plan.
