Gen. Bradley welcomed home
MOBERLY, Missouri (AP) – Gen. Omar N. Bradley, the man Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower gives much credit for the smashing Allied victory in Europe, came home yesterday to receive the four-star welcome Moberly has prepared for its most illustrious son.
Accompanied by his wife, the general arrived from Washington by plane.
Once feared grounded at St. Louis because of the weather, the plane circled the airport as Gov. Phil Donnelly, Mayor F. L. McCormick and other members of the welcoming committee raced to the airfield, a mile from the city.
President on cruise
WASHINGTON (AP) – President Truman left yesterday afternoon on an overnight river cruise on the yacht Potomac. He will return to the White House some time today.

Japan erwartet die Invasion
Washington, 10. Juni – Der japanische Ministerpräsident Admiral Suzuki erklärte in einer Rede: „Das Angebot bedingungsloser Übergabe seitens der Alliierten lässt uns keine andere Wahl, als für unser wunderbares Reich bis zum bitteren Ende zu kämpfen. Es wird an jedem japanischen Soldaten liegen, sich bis zum Letzten zu schlagen, wenn die unvermeidliche Invasion kommt.“
Admiral Suzuki erklärte ferner, dass zahlreichere und heftigere Luftangriffe zu erwarten seien. Die Zahl der wohnungslosen Japaner wird auf zwei Millionen geschätzt. In Tokio allein sind mehr als 275.000 Häuser vernichtet.
Der amerikanische Kriegsminister Stimson erklärte anlässlich einer Pressekonferenz, dass jetzt die britischen Streitkräfte allein die militärische Verantwortung für die Alliierten in Burma tragen. Die Erklärung Stimsons bestätigt eine frühere Verlautbarung, wonach die amerikanischen Truppen aus Burma nach Ostasien verlegt wurden. Die Front in Burma ist damit ein rein britisches Operationsgebiet geworden. Es handelt such hier um die stärkste Zusammenziehung britischer Land- und Seestreitkräfte im Krieg gegen Japan.
