Washington (UP) –
The War Production Board today asked housewives to save the grease from their Thanksgiving turkey for the manufacture of ammunition.

Turkey grease and all other waste fats are needed to make glycerin, an essential ingredient in explosives.

Living costs in cities rise 1% in month

Washington (UP) –
The living cost of city workers rose 1% between Sept. 15 and Oct. 15, Secretary of Labor Frances Perkins reported today.

Most of the rise was due to a 2.4% increase in food costs, with the greatest advances in prices of butter and other dairy products, eggs, oranges, potatoes and onions. The family food bill in mid-October was 16% higher than a year ago.
