Willkie to be awarded American Hebrew Medal

New York (UP) –
The American Hebrew Medal, awarded annually for the promotion of better understanding between Christians and Jews in America, will be presented in December to Wendell L. Willkie.

Joseph H. Biben, editor and publisher of The American Hebrew, said the presentation will be in recognition of Mr. Willkie’s contribution to the services of his country and:

…particularly for his continuous contribution to the cause of oppressed minorities.

President can’t talk of troops in Liberia

Washington (UP) –
President Roosevelt today declined to confirm or deny London reports of American troops in Liberia.

He said he did not dare discuss the subject without consultation with the military command since the reports, if they were so, involved operational movements of troops. Such reports, he said, should not be discussed by the President without prior agreement with military authorities.

Legion of Merit rules prescribed

Washington (UP) –
President Roosevelt today prescribed rules for the award of the Legion of Merit decorations established by Congress in July.

Mr. Roosevelt said the decoration would be awarded by him or at his direction to members of the armed forces of the United States, the Philippines and friendly foreign nations, who after the presidential emergency proclamation of Sept. 8, 1939:

…distinguished themselves by exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services.
