The first subchaser of World War II, the Diesel-engined PC-505, was commissioned yesterday at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Patterned after the “Cinderella Fleet” craft of World War I, the PC-505 is faster and better equipped, although built of wood.

Tire theft a felony

Albany, NY, April 22 –
Theft of an auto, tire or tube will become a felony under a bill given final legislative approval today in the Assembly. A fine of not less then $250 nor more than $500 or imprisonment up to five years, or both, is provided.

Stockholm plantation: Tuesday afternoon, our air force made a surprise attack on enemy establishments in the vicinity of Rabaul, with direct hits on buildings. The following morning, we hit again, with docks as the main objective.

Netherlands East Indies.
Timor: Fighting is still in progress with elements of Australian and Dutch detachments operating jointly on the interior.

Philippines.
Corregidor: There were intermittent dive bombing attacks against the fortified islands. Aerial activity is diminishing.

Visayans: Our forces are in contact with the enemy in southern Panay. Fighting continues in the island of Cebu.

Mindanao: Hostile seaplanes attacked in northern districts.
