Woolten Pie Episode

Just saw the episode on how to make it. It seems that some sort of hot sause, such as tabasco, would help the flavor. Were such sauses common or popular in the UK during the war?

No, American-style hot sauce had little or no market in the UK until well after WW2 (I doubt it had much of a market outside the US south until the 1960s or later, to be honest). In most working-class families of the day, even garlic was considered an exotic flavouring agent.

InRangeTV did an episode of their British Ration Week on Woolton Pie, to a slightly different recipe than Joram used (not having made either of them, I think I’d prefer Joram’s recipe to Ian’s) - https://youtu.be/4-6aZD-VpDE
