Wooden Wonders, the Mosquito got tested

Hi,

Last month, 20 April 1941 saw the demonstration flight of the De Havilland Mosquito a twin engined superfast light weight bomber. This plane would become a fighter, jailbreaker, lead airplane for bomber formations, anti submarine etc.

Like Reggie Mitchels’ Spitfire this was one of those more or less ground up projects which revolutionized thinking. De Havilland had no real approval for building this unconventional 2 person wooden bombers but went on anyway and it (spoiler) will become one of the best planes of the war. With its range and speed it could show up almost anywhere including Gestapo headquarters in occupied lands.

Apart from the military successes its missions became a great moral booster in dark times, also for those who had to deal with vicious and arrogant occupation.

Disclaimer: I love the Mossie, still hope to get some time on it in my logbook. (I have DH WW2 Jet Vampire and Spitfire time already) !
