WOMEN PROTEST ‘FASCIST’ U.S. DIMES

Washington, April 28 (UP) –
The Women’s Division of the Committee of Americans wants the government to “stop minting the emblem of Fascism on American dimes.”

In a letter to Secretary of the Treasury Henry Morgenthau Jr., today it suggested that the image of Benjamin Franklin be substituted for the present image of fasces, the emblem of the Italian Fascist Party. Fasces date back to Roman days when they were borne before magistrates as a symbol of authority. They are a bundle of rods with an axe protruding.
