WILLKIE ASKS DELAY IN FILM ‘WAR’ PROBE
Washington, Sept. 2 –
A Senate committee that will investigate alleged movie war propaganda today considers a request by Wendell L. Willkie that the hearings be postponed for a week.
Mr. Willkie, the 1940 Republican presidential candidate and now a vigorous supporter of President Roosevelt’s foreign policy, revealed last night that he had been retained to defend motion picture producers against the charges.
The hearings were scheduled to begin tomorrow, but members of the committee indicated that they would grant Mr. WIllkie’s request to give him time to prepare his case.
A subcommittee of the Senate Interstate Commerce Committee will conduct the investigation. A majority of its members are non-interventionists. Senator D. Worth Clark (D-ID) is chairman and the other members are Senators Homer T. Bone (D-WA), Ernest W. McFarland (D-AZ), C. Wayland Brooks (R-IL) amd Charles W. Tobey (R-NH).
