With Midway coming up maybe you can make it clear to me?
Their invasion fleet, minus three carriers, was intact and the US didn’t have much air power left either. What did they have to lose by pushing forward with the landing? They knew a long war was a losing proposition and believed in one decisive battle, so what am I missing? You all do an amazing job and we’re lucky to have you. Proud to finally join the TGArmy.
Very very good question.
I asked a similar question as to why Japan could not invade the USA,Pearl Harbour Or Midway and NormanStewart (there were other people with awesome answers too but the article he provided me was top notch). It is pretty long and not so beautiful looking. However, the explanation is top notch. Definitely recommend a full read.

But here is the long story short version (and I am really not doing justice to the article) but the shipping japan handled can be split into 2 parts - military which also includes invasion and civilian. The total japanese shipping was 6.5 million tons, 2.6 million tons for the civilians and 3.9 million tons for the military. However, japan needed 10 million tons of shipping to be successful. So they started the war with 3.5 million tons less. So the japanese could only field 11 divisions, no more.
So if they had to invade midway where would they find the extra vessels to do it? Plus, the entire plan was similar to Pearl Harbour, bomb the Navy there so they could pose no threat to the Japanese.
