I think there were plans to either invade the Philippines or Formosa (Taiwan) but MacArthur won his plan to liberate the Philippines
Look at the map, Taiwan is way out of the Marianas - Japan axis. Between the submarine campaign and the taking of Okinawa, Taiwan, by the time an invasion of Japan was on the cards, was a de facto POW camp.
