Particulary on the internet,I’ve remarked that quite a bit of post on reddit like to paint the Wehrmacht as some kind of apolitical army (wich is something out of the clean wehrmacht myth for me) ,I think that for some being a nazi is just being a member of the party ,when it’s more than that ,a nazi is someone (at least for me) who believe/have sympathy toward the nazi ideology and he can believe in the ideology without being a party member. I wonder if it’s due to the lack of documentary showing the reality of the Wehmacht
Wild guess here, I think it’s multifaceted. For example because of the creation of the SS gave them a separate ideological “army”, plus there is documentation of the Wehrmacht high command in the field complaining of the actions of the SS against civilians and not fighting the actual enemy in the Russian campaign, and while the Wehrmacht did commit atrocities and war crimes (unjustified under any circumstances) it is not special to that army unfortunately as every army in every conflict have been guilty of over the course of history, and so to blanket all members of the Wehrmacht for being Nazis is similar to saying all Germans of the era were also nazis, so I’m not sure that would be a fair or just statement. Just me and my thoughts on the subject. Thanks
