During WW1 the central powers began collapsing pretty quickly after each other. Is there any particular reason that Japan and Germany in particular continue fighting into 1945 when the war is already effectively over.
Is it that Allied strategic bombing was actually rallying the Axis powers populations together? That Germany or in particular the German Leadership were determined not to be humiliated like WW1.
More like that they didn’t want the germans to belive that they had been stabbed in back again.
Here’s Robert Citino’s lecture about it.
Don’t worry. He answers your question in the first 20 mins. Plus… he is very very entertaining.
As for japan. The Japanese do not know the definition of surrender. To die for the emperor is more honourable than surrendering. Well… that is what was drilled into them from school.
But one axis power did “collapse”… yes… you know the name. Italy.
