Why did the United States not make diesel tanks like the rest of the worlds tanks?

Because US choose to run only petrol engines due to logistics. Shermans with diesel engines was delivered to Russia. Diesel engines was invented in Germany, so I guess US just continued with what they allready had in the supply Chain.

In the same way others make petrol engines. A machine shop would be my guess :wink:

Changes the supply requirements to just have to supply one fuel. Which is still happening- you’ll note how many US military things run on kerosene, which is the fuel of choice for jets.

For WWII, if just a handful of high performance planes need the best fuel, it’s pretty easy to deliver regular gas for planes, tanks, trucks, and jeeps.
