What roles did Dreadnoughts play in WWII?

Hi Indy,

Fellow Houstonian here with a question regarding the use of Dreadnoughts in WWII. Specifically, Im curious about what roles they played and how they were refitted to better accommodate those roles.

When I was in the boy scouts as a kid, we once spent the night aboard the USS Texas, which, as you might know, is now a museum ship moored near San Jacinto. At the time it seemed like the most dangerous ship ever made, but now I have a hard time understanding what practical use such a massive and slow naval vessel would have had in WWII besides as a convoy escort.

Thanks and Go ‘Stros!

They where meant to sink other battleships. In WW2 there effectiveness dropped with the rise of aircraft carriers. So they usually escorted the carriers although these old WW1 ara Dreadnoughts where usually a lot slower than carriers or more modern battleships. They could also be used as shore bombardment. Battleship VS battleship duals were pretty rare but they did happen.
