What role did the Royal Canadian Navy play in the battle of the Atlantic, particularly in the Newfoundland and Mid-Ocean Escort forces?
Note, I’m reposting this question since I recently changed my subscription tier, so I thought it may be a good idea.

The RCN was a vigorous escorter, though at the beginning of the war had very few (6, actually) ships capable of operating outside of coastal waters. A pretty good introduction is

Hope this helps!
(Thanks to tijmenwillard for pointing out that the RCN is not the RN.)

Canada played a very crucial role in the Battle of the Atlantic. In the war’s beginning Canada was really the only major Dominion in the commonwealth that was close enough to the UK to provide any immediate assistance, so the lifeline that was shipping supplies from North America had to be protected. I’m fact Canadian Admiral Laurence Murray was placed in command of all naval convoys from Newfoundland to New York to Ireland, making him the only Canadian to command a Operational Theatre during EITHER World War. By the time the war ended, the RCN was the 3rd largest navy in the world. Mostly small escort craft but still.
