What is the worst ww2 film for you?

I also remember a comedy with a power girl like women and a guy who are spying hitler with a verry confusing ending (like they just leave berlin and instant got in ussr)

If your going for lousy movies with big explosions Michael Bays Pearl Harbour is a prime example

If your going for historical inaccurate movies I give my vote to Battle of the Bulge

Well, “worst war films” tend to fall into one of a few camps, to some degree: historically inaccurate, badly clichĂ©, but entertaining (U-571; Pearl Harbor '01); boring (maybe alone on this, but The Thin Red Line; The Man Who Never Was); fictional, with the war as merely a backdrop (The Guns of Navarone; Where Eagles Dare); bad propaganda (The Flowers of War; The Liberation Quintology); anddddd completely divorced from reality to where they really can’t be taken seriously as war films (Dead Snow; Overlord). Each of these is “bad”, in some respect, but it depends on what constitutes your definition of “bad”.

For me, good movies are about immersion, and being able to suspend disbelief for however long the length of the movie is. If Saving Private Ryan, City of Life and Death, Grave of the Fireflies, Downfall, and Come and See are on one end, then on the other end is stuff like
 The Fall of Berlin '49.

It manages to combine every bad element of bad war films, minus the entertainment value. What entertainment value it has comes from being more a novelty from the Cult of Stalin than being an actual movie. It (tries*) doing for Stalinism what Jude SĂŒĂŸ (1940) did for Nazism, making it the most abhorrent of propaganda. The clichĂ©s are everywhere, the performances are bad
the Soviet messaging about Stalin as a god/savior like breathing down the neck of everything sap the film of any creativity. It’s a poor, poor film, and immediately comes to my mind as the worst WW2 movie.

Yep, probably alone, because I love that film.

Not necessarily the worst of war films

I only cited those two McLean-based movies because of those that hold their fiction against them in the context of being WW2 films. I personally enjoy them a great deal.

That’s alright. I don’t hold that against you.

It’s just that I was a little thrown off when The Thin Red Line was mentioned.

Your posts in this thread alone contain so many glaring inaccuracies that it boggles the mind.

You seem to let your dislike of ‘communists’ cloud your judgement and it has made you prone to believe some ridiculous anti-communist ‘Cold War’ propaganda.

I will for now address two of your most false claims.

  1. your claim that the Soviet Red Army raped more women is false. The Germans and their allies/vassals raped vastly more Polish and Soviet women than that the Red Army ever did to Polish and German women (not that they didn’t do it, they definately did and of course one crime does not justify another). The big difference is that the German Army often killed Soviet women (directly or indirectly) after doing so.

  2. your claims about the gulags (which primarily served as labour camps unlike the Nazi death camps) are frankly insulting. Yes many people died in them (1.5-2 million) but labelling them as an equivalent or even template for Nazi camps is beyond ludicrous and reeks of revisionism.

Here’s what American general Graves had to say about the White Russians:

"All over White held eastern Russia
there is an orgy of arrest without charges, of execution without even the pretense of trial, and confiscation without color of authority. Fear-panic has seized everyone. Men suspect each other and live in constant terror that some spy or enemy will cry ‘Bolshevik’ and condemn them to instant death”

“Semyonov and Kalmykov’s soldiers were roaming the countryside like wild animals, killing and robbing the people, and those murders could have been stopped any day. If questions were asked about these brutal murders, the reply was that the people murdered were Bolsheviks and this explanation, apparently, satisfied the world."

Kalmykov’s reign of terror drove many moderates to support the Bolsheviks. Semyonov was even constructing primitive death camps. On 19 August 1919, Colonel Stephanov slaughtered 52 carloads of prisoners, and the following day he reported that he had killed 1600 people. These human slaughter yards continued to operate throughout much of the civil war. Graves wrote:

“I doubt if history will show any country in the world during the last 40 years where murder could be committed as safely and with less danger of punishment than in Siberia during the regime of Admiral Kolchak.”

Finally, in writing about his experiences, General Graves had this to say about the White terror:

“There were horrible murders committed, but they were not exclusively committed by the Bolsheviks as the world believes. I am well on the side of safety when I say that the anti-Bolsheviks killed one hundred people in Eastern Siberia, to every one killed by the Bolsheviks.”

I am also on the safe side of history when noting that Denikin’s “Whites” in Southern Russia were no better. White Terror was perpetrated by “warlords” such as the Cossack Atamans Semenov and Annenkov and targeted specific groups: Socialist militants, suspected Bolshevik sympathizers and Jews. As was also often the case under the Red Terror, during the White Terror the greatest massacres of opponents and civilian “enemies” were perpetrated just before abandoning a town or position.

And finally, “Generalplan Ost” was not a figment of Soviet imagination. Where did you get this ludicrous nonsense? “Generalplan Ost” was a detailed Nazi plan of how to deal with the occupied eastern territories mostly after the war (which they assumed they would win). It is referred to in countless other German documents of the time. Yet you show up here just declaring this a ‘figment of Soviet imagination’ because your hatred of communism has made you unable to distinguish fact from fiction.

And regarding the “ak was just a plagiat of the stg 44 thing” ,the gun were verry different and kalachnikov had to do quite a number of prototype to get it right (my source on his prototype are the ligne de front n° 85 ,and it’s already debunk in shitwehraboosay by the way https://old.reddit.com/r/ShitWehraboosSay/search?q=stg+44&restrict_sr=on&include_over_18=on ),also I don’t get were does the notion that general plan ost is some leftiest propaganda come from

ah, communist propagandists are here.

Lenin murdered about 10 million in his red terror and then Stalin murdered up to 8 million in Holodomor just in 1 winter. But keep telling yourself that whites lost because of white terror. When your commissars came up with the tactic of shooting every 10th soldier in the regiment if they would retreat and it was your commissars who gassed civilian experience in 1922 in Tambov.

And White Terror was a response to your red terror, and if you want to complain about whites arresting people with no justification then I will remind you that not only red did that, they also murdered people based in their work, position, and race as well. Cossacks had to be exterminated, so as farmers and educated Belorussian and Ukrainian elites. In fact, you would rape children in cossack villages when you would come in, it was normal for the red mob, no wonder we all joined germans in 1941and killed your commissars.

You are nothing more than a communist apologist. Here is how Cheka actually looked like not in your red myths, give a watch to this film The Chekist

I am happy that I insulted you.

You could make an excellent case that Micheal Bay’s PEARL HARBOR is the worst movie of all time in any category.
PEARL HARBOR makes Spielberg’s 1941
(which is a slapstick comedy musical)
look like COME AND SEE

Not technically a film but I’d put the War and Rememberance series very highly up there.
Not only is the performance of Hitler stupidly over the top and laughable, but it has some of the most ridiculous “Clean Wehrmacht” propaganda I’ve ever seen in historical fiction.
Some of these involve.
-Rommel asking Hitler to stop the Holocaust

-Halder and Brautisch complaining about the Holocaust and war crimes on the Eastern Front

-Almost every issue in the Eastern Front being blamed on Hitler
(Same video)

Although I think stuff like the Rommel scene is quite nice as a summary of Hitler’s views on what connected Bolsheivism and capitalism, overall the series is just ridiculous.

I remember seeing that show as a kid and even then I thought something was funny about the portrayal of Hitler. Then again, what did you expect from Steven Berkoff?

Even Hitler Rants Parodies had fun with it.

so much clean Wehrmacht, clean rommel and he should have listened to his general!

Pearl Harbour, i think its a great film for encouraging young people to be interested in history but I think as an accurate representation of the events which occurred it makes my blood boil. Mainly because it was one of the films which got me interested in history however now I’ve gotten older and seen it plenty of times, I’ve grown to despise Hollywood and their historical movies. For those who care, I think enemy behind the gate is a great film because of the actor/actresses doing a great performance some with saving private Ryan but both have flaws since you can’t make the worst historical war to have ever happened realistic or that historically accurate since we don’t know what it was like. All we hear are the stories of war.
