What has Japan’s “ally” Thailand been up to after the japanese forced them to sign a military pact with them? Seems odd to me that the japanese would just let them sit there in Burma (although they were not allowed frontline combat).

Well, they actually declared war on the US and UK, fought a civil war, invaded Burma, seized parts of French Indochina and invaded China. I’d say they were pretty busy!

looked it up in a general (on-line) page on Thailand in WW2. There was a political schism in Thailand over the ‘alliance’ with Japan, and the “Free Thai Movement” grew up very quickly to oppose the Japan-installed government. They numbered about 90,000 and were supported by the OSS and SOE. I’d say that qualifies as a civil war (though perhaps not as bloody as some.)
Here’s where most of that comes from:
Hope this helps!
