Were there any Australian Army soldiers who did not return home during Operation Pamphlet and instead continued the fight against the Axis in North Africa and later Europe?

Today the Australian 9th Division begins to leave Egypt for Australia. Were any of the soldiers able to request to stay or were ordered to stay in the MTO and later ETO to fight the Axis?

If there were men who volunteered to stay or men who could speak German or other languages useful for present or upcoming fighting it seems counterproductive to send them away from this theatre of war.
