U.S. BOMBERS STREAM OVER ATLANTIC TO BRITAIN
London, Jan. 2 (UP) –
United States bombers are being flown across the Atlantic Ocean to Britain “in a steady stream,” Viscount Beaverbrook, Minister for Aircraft Production, said today.
Beaverbrook described the transatlantic flights as “a very efficient means of delivery” and he said the method of delivery was “being extended more and more.”
The Minister’s statement marked the first official announcement that United States bombers were being flown across the Atlantic.
Beaverbrook said:
Britain now has more airplanes of every type in operation than ever before in history and she has more in reserve.
All British orders for United States airplanes for 1941 now have been placed and the United States program for this year has been settled.
He said he had information that the Germans were “engaging in immense activity in aircraft production.”
