Which US media you have got that story from? It is absolute outside of reality. Check the Ukrainiam shopping list from Germany, I have posted it.
Actually here was where I got it. Not saying itâs any better than US media. Had trouble getting the link right. My bad.
I canât find any other quotes sounding even remotely like this. Iâm tending to believe a journalist took extreme liberty with his comments. If he said it, I canât figure out who he would be saying it too that would make sense.
Headline for sales, information out of context.
Or he is a realist and knows how short the memory span of Humans is.
Once the war is over a there will be those who will be making a lot of money.
Like the Ferengi say âWar is good for businessâ , âPeace is good for businessâ
Olaf Scholz is a German and a former ruler of Hamburg (Gomorrha), war has never been good business
for Germans
This was great. Thank you
Our female left radical defence minister said: âIt does not matter what we want, our neighbours expect us to lead.â And in my opinion the Americans will recognize that Russia is not the USSR but an European problem. And without the war on terror the US bases in Germany are only usefull to defend the Saudis.
Odd that would come from your defense minister. I think the prime minister of Finland recently said the EU is too weak to go it without the US currently. I would hope the average citizen has faith that the US isnât going to abandon Europe. We complain a lot but we do this to negotiate and we still have many ties with Europe.
Germany has been a leader in Europe since 1990. You canât avoid it when you have the top economy. I understand you may be uncomfortable with it. And in the US we are adjusting to to not calling as many shots as we used to. I feel that as long as we are moving towards a more secure and peaceful world we arenât leaving anyone or anywhere.
Besides we have our own weakness also. We are coming up as much as 20% short of recruitment goals. Every country is facing pressure over this last year. Which is why NATO seems stronger than ever.
She is right, and she demanded it is time to change that.
The US media is complaining about US combat troops in Europe, when the US military personal in Europe is made much more of logistic/support/medical staff for Africa and Asia (west of India).
Update
The Ukrainian military recently stated that aside from the muddy season slowing down their advances on Russian lines they also had to slow down due to needed repairs on western supplied vehicles, armour and weaponry and although it was not stated how much equipment were down for repairs British and American analysts estimated upwards of 35% of western supplied equipment and vehicles were down for much needed repairs. It is thought that by mid to late December most of that equipment, vehicles and armour will be ready for operational use again.
On the Russian side some areas are well supplied with spare parts and are able to effect repairs in good time and in other areas it has been confirmed by multiple sources that Russian mechanics have to strip parts from multiple vehicles to keep 2 operational. In Kherson at a repair facility setup by the Russians it was documented that Russian mechanics had to to strip 9 damaged tanks of parts to keep 3 tanks operational.
This is a common theme right across the front lines and even within Russia itself as sanctions are finally starting to really hurt Russian production. Until a couple of months ago Russian production lines made do with other parts and sourced other materials. Now with those materials running low production at many facilities have slowed down or stopped completely due to lack of materials and it is showing. Common everyday electronics we all take for granted like programmable coffee makers, toasters, Remote controls for various electronics, TVs, Radios and even vehicles are getting harder and harder to find due to lack of materials to make them with.
With all that being said Putin is still very popular in Russia 70% of the population still liking him. This is most notable in those over the age of 40 who grew up in the USSR and those that dislike Putin being mostly 30 and under with 60% of those wanting him gone.
Itâs very likely that discontent will continue to grow even more as the winter drags on and more conveniences disappear from Russian markets
You can pretty much take those statistics and throw them in the garbage. This is a country that jails people for âspreading fake news about the militaryâ; condemns sharing news of military defeats; and even now, 9 months later, doesnât even call it a war. Public polling in Russia is pointless and means nothing.
The number of people under 30 who are willing to risk speaking against Putin gives hope. The Russian regime is corrupt but fails to be as totalitarian as the soviet systems in East Europe.
I watched this all yesterday and was considering making a thread on it. It raises excellent points on civilian resilience.
Try to think of wars where AirPower did break civilians. One old argue the gulf war but he correctly points out that if the civilians donât believe in victory then morale becomes a problem. Serbia?
I donât think the use of bombing or AirPower will break Ukraine (excepting Nukes of course). Ukraine seems more United in the belief that they are fighting for their future than ever. It will kill people and break stuff though. Looks good on the news.
Thatâs nice, but @obiwanbul is kind of right in that opposition doesnât mean as much in a totilitarian country. Just look at Iran for that, thereâs been massive protests for months now, but itâs very unlikely to change anything unless it spirals into outright revolution. Now if thereâs a country where I find revolution unlikely it most certainly is Russia.
In summer 1989 I had a long list of countrys unlikely for a revolution, on the top of this list was a German speaking country.
