The Italian Battleship "The Roma"

Here’s an interesting article about Italy’s Roma battleship that was accidentally sunk by German fighters when it trailed its fleet.

Oh, I’m pretty sure it wasn’t any kind of “accident”.

That’s not what the article says - it accurately says that the Roma was on its way to Malta to be surrendered, and the Germans sank her with two Fritz-X (one of passed completely through the ship (the flooding mentioned), and the other detonating the forward magazine. (She sank in 23 minutes.)

I love how this article talks about the flaws of the Littorio class and then states that these would have made little difference in combat against an Iowa or Yamato. Seriously you fire shells extremely slowly and inaccurately and it’s not going to make a difference. Either of these ships would have torn the Roma to bits.
