The Canadian War in Photographs - 1941

Doing something that is a little less time consuming, not to mention a little easier for you guys to consume. Just some interesting photographs from Library and Archives Canada. All of these pictures are from 1941, some from Summer and some from Winter. The key points are expansion for the BCATP and the Navy, whilst the Army grows its numbers in England and at home. Things are settling down from the rush of 1940 and the Fall of France, and the nation is slowly tooling up to wartime production.

(The BCATP is progressing nicely, with numerous flight schools now open across the country. Here we see Avro Ansons of No. 2 Air Observer School outside of Edmonton, Alberta. The plan trained not only pilots, but radio operators, navigators, bombardiers, and ground crews)

Meanwhile, the Navy is in the midst of a dark winter that pits the hardy crews of the corvettes, trawlers, and destroyers up against both the U-boats and the frigid North Atlantic.

The Army is still continuing to train in England, growing its numbers and equipment. The threat of invasion has, for the moment, subsided somewhat.
