I recently read in the newspaper that Salomon “Sally” Perel / Hitlerjunge Salomon passed away on February 2nd, 2023 at the age of 97. I’m posting it because it fits the topic here. This man’s story is likely to be unique.
He was born to Jewish parents in Germany, was a staunch Stalinist, was a member of the 12th Panzer Division, met Stalin’s son, was sent by his company commander to an elite Hitler Youth school in the Reich, later fought in the Israeli army and was finally a peace activist.
Contemporary witnesses are becoming fewer and fewer, but what we have left is his book, film and the interviews with him.
