Today is the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Royal Canadian Naval Reserve (the modern incarnation of both the RCNR and the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve (RCNVR)). The original British organizations Canada replicated were the RNR, for experienced sailors mostly from the merchant navy, and the RNVR, for landlubbers who wanted to serve part-time and later wartime-only in the navy.
