ROOSEVELT TO DELIVER FIRESIDE CHAT MAY 27

Washington, May 13 (UP) –
President Roosevelt will deliver a fireside chat to the nation on May 27.

The address will be a substitute for the one the President was scheduled to make tomorrow night before the Pan-American Union and which he cancelled late yesterday.

Mr. Roosevelt will speak from the White House from 10:30 to 11 p.m. (EDT) over the three major radio networks. The Latin American diplomats who were to have heard him at their meeting tomorrow night have been invited to attend “the homey, very informal party” at the White House which will precede the May 27 address.

The White House announcement of plans for fireside chat gave no hint as to the nature of the President’s address. There had been much speculation in the last few days over a momentous decision on foreign policy which he was expected to announce tomorrow night. However, presidential aides put a damper on the rumors yesterday when they said there was no basis for them.
