Hi! I’d be curious what was the role of language and translation in units (or chain of command as a whole) consisting of people from more nationalities not speaking the same language. For example communication between French-English or German-Hungarian-Romanian soldiers. How did they actually manage to function and fight together? Thanks!

From the Romanian perspective, there were enough knowledgeable officers and generals who knew multiple languages - particularly French (Romania is a Francophone country) - so that was not necessarily a problem.
In fact, at some point during the war, General Petre Dumitrescu was effectively leading German units in the southern front (Romania - Ukraine border & lands).
