Dear Indy, Sparty, Astrid, and Team, I have been watching since 1916. Thanks for all the excellent history coverage.
I want to know more about the Japanese occupation of the Andaman islands. The Andaman and Nicobar Islands, now a part of India, were occupied by the Japanese way back in March 1942. I’ve seen claims of 2000 andamanese dead as a result of the occupation. Some specifics I would like to know about are:
-
What did the local Andamanese population at the time think of Subhas Chandra Bose and the INA, who were nominally in charge at the time? I can’t seem to find much, if any literature on the issue, but I know from talking to some older Andaman residents that they atleast saw the INA unfavourably at that time.
-
Did the Japanese also take women from the island as ‘comfort women’?
-
Did the Japanese or the INA have any interactions with the North Sentinelese, which is one of the world’s last ‘uncontacted’ tribes?
Thanks in advance,
Cheers,
Abhi
