Princess Elizabeth begins ‘training’

London, England (UP) –
Princess Elizabeth, heir to the British throne, who will become a potential Counsellor of State April 21 when she reaches the age of 18, has begun a series of tours which will take her to all parts of Britain and introduce her to tens of thousands of persons who will someday be her subjects.

The Princess, whom most Britons still find it difficult to think of as nearly grown up, began her series of visits with a recent two-day tour of invasion troops with the King and Queen.

Like all other British girls, the Princess registered under the National Service Act on her 16th birthday. Although the possibility of her entering one of the women’s services was considered the King and Queen are now known to have decided definitely against that.

They took the view that preparation for future responsibilities as Britain’s queen constituted the most important national service she could perform.
