Painted Roman pillar in Xanten

Not a question but Visited an excellent Roman museum in Xanten comprising a partly rebuilt city on the exact location were it was.

This is the link to the museum, opened in 2008. What makes in unique that most of terrain wasn’t used for 1500. the Romans wanted control of the Rhine all the way to the North Sea. Later, Napoleon, the Kaiser Wilhelm 2 and Hitler wanted that too. (Probably many others as well). Waterways are less known than roads but absolutely vital).

Glad you like it. Intercontinental travel is expensive but a great way to save money is to use public transports and hostels. Xanten has a hostel but my favorite in Europe is Slot Assemburg In Heemskerk, just North of Amsterdam. It is a 13th century castle with a mote and fab castle garden.
