A bit tongue in cheek but I must admit that the old movies with Kirk Douglas really sparked my interest in history as well as many others. Spartacus, Paths, The Vikings of which my father was a real fan.
And of course the Final Countdown with the old what if questions (and fantastic non-CGI flying scenes, which were incredibly difficult to film at the time).

I’ll always remember him for two things: Kubrick and well, this.

I haven’t seen a lot of his films, but my parents have a bunch of John Wayne movies including War Wagon were Kirk co-stared with the Duke.
I must have seen Taw & Lomax rob that metal stagecoach a million times.
