Washington, Sept. 9 –
Here is an official tabulation of the U.S. Navy’s combatant strength, showing warships now in service and those building and contracted for today:

*includes 50 overage destroyers traded to Britain for naval and air bases and 46 old destroyers which have been converted for special types of work.

Experts estimated the cost of the 45,000-ton battleships in the new program at $100 million each, the eight aircraft carriers at $47 million apiece, the 27 cruisers at $30 million each, the 115 destroyers at $8,100,000 each and the 43 submarines at $6 million each.
