‘NEWS BLACKOUT’ AT NIGHT ORDERED IN AXIS COUNTRIES

New York, April 7 (UP) –
A complete “news blackout” between the hours of 1 p.m. and midnight (ET) has been ordered until further notice in both Italy and Germany, it was announced officially in Rome today. The announcement suspending all communications with the outside world during the evening hours was announced “as a military measure.” A similar 24-hour blackout in Rome ended today at 1 a.m. (ET).

In Berlin, the German High Command for 26½ hours blocked efforts of all foreign newspaper correspondents to transmit stories of the Nazi thrust into Yugoslavia and Greece. During that period, the only news which reached newspapers outside Germany was picked up in Switzerland, London and New York from the wireless transmissions of DNB and the broadcasts of the German Ministry of Propaganda.
