Nero, the man behind the myth

Finally a bit more balanced view of Nero who did more than playing fiddles in burning  cities.

History is written by the victors, as always. The reality of Nero is hidden behind that and the minimal amount of source material. It is amazing how little actual stuff we have from the period, and how much of what we “know” is extrapolated from that. As an example, my copy of “Roman Britain; a source book”, which is a translation of everything on the topic from original sources, has fewer than 250 pages of not very tightly spaced information. And most of it is fragmentary inscriptions.
