Hi all!
One movie that I enjoy that bubbled up to the front of my mind is Conspiracy. During the episodes that addressed the Nuremberg Laws I gained a better context for Conspiracy. Here is a synopsis and short clip from the film.
“In January 1942, as the United States enters World War II, a conference assembles near Berlin. SS Gen. Heydrich (Kenneth Branagh) and his associate, Lt. Eichmann (Stanley Tucci) call the meeting to discuss the “evacuation” of Germany’s Jews and other undesirables, a code word for their extermination in concentration camps. To begin this Final Solution, they must change the mind of a small group of men opposed to the idea, led by Chancellor Kritzinger (David Threlfall).”
Two of the reasons I enjoy the film is the really good acting and also the uneasy feeling that everyone in the film is a villain. Even the ones that argue against the “Final Solution” do so for their own, often petty, reasons. I’m not sure if it’s just the film or there’s some basis in reality, but the movie puts forth how the SS was commandeering all facets of power in Germany. The party, the state, the army would all answer to the SS. Or at least that is the fate that’s hinted at.
A really fine film that I think this group would enjoy
