Manila air force bolstered by U.S.

Washington, Oct. 25 (UP) –
Maj. Gen. Lewis H. Brereton is en route to Manila to take command of the air forces under Lt. Gen. Douglas MacArthur, commander of the U.S. Army forces in the Far East, authoritative sources said today.

His transfer to the new post in Manila was believed to be another step toward bolstering the strategic position of the U.S. in the Far East.

Military experts here suggested that the strengthening of the U.S. Air Force in the Philippine zone, particularly in the bombardment elements, could relieve the Navy of the job of patrolling certain strategic sectors.
