LOUISIANA DRAFT DODGER FACES THREE-YEAR TERM
New Orleans, Oct. 24 (UP) –

Michael John Caffie, 29-year-old French Quarter newspaper peddler, faced three years in prison today because he believed “there is nothing worth defending in the United States” and failed to register for the draft.

Caffie argued before Federal District Judge Adrian Caillouet yesterday that “the preamble of the Constitution says liberty is an inalienable right which can’t be taken away.”

Federal Bureau of Investigation agents quoted Caffie as saying the European war was started by “politicians, capitalists and newspapers.”
