Hello everyone, I’d heard talk of a stand of SS men who were ordered to hold a ridge near a railroad postion. It seems it happened south of Seelow and prior to the offensive.
Supposedly a depleted unit of SS men apparently only 28 men, were tasked with holding this vital position. The Soviets took their position but the men counter attacked and held for nearly 48 hours. Soviet forces were approximately 400 plus men. Reports stated they suffered nearly 200 wounded. And when the fight was over after the Heavy shelling none of the SS men remained and they could only piece together 5 bodies.
Given what little information I have found and based off of unit deployment I believe these men were of the 9th SS. However I’ve been unable to find a proper name of this battle/location as well as a full combat report.
I was hoping perhaps you guys would know of such a battle?
I know the week by week is nowhere near Berlin yet, but this stand of these men seems like such a interesting story and I’d hate to see it go unknown or mentioned. Thanks again I figure this is a tough one to answer given the unfortunately vague details given
Love the show guys
