Supposedly, the Japanese spread rumors that Hirohito was going to convert to Islam. Does anybody know much about this?

I know one thing: the Japanese Emperor was regarded as a deity, the Supreme Head of the Shinto Buddhist community, so, being God or the next best, a deity, it is inconceivable that Hiro Hito would even contemplate or concider switching religion…
