JAPS REPORT RUSSIA READY TO SIGN PACT

Tokyo, Jan. 27 (UP) –
Newspapers, which frequently are inspired by the government, said today that Russia had agreed to negotiate an important treaty, presumably a non-aggression treaty with Japan.

They quoted Foreign Minister Yōsuke Matsuoka as making the statement yesterday to the House budget committee.

Matsuoka also told the budget committee that it was outrageous for the United States to object to Japanese control of the Western Pacific.

Matsuoka also said:

We must have the United States reconsider its attitude not only for Japan’s sake but for the world’s sake. If this is impossible, then we cannot hope for improvement of Japanese-American relations… we cannot change our national policy to endorse American views.
