Jane Pratt, Burgin’s aide, to succeed him in House
TROY, North Carolina (AP) – The 8th District Democratic Congressional Executive Committee, meeting here yesterday, nominated Miss Jane Pratt of Raeford, secretary to the late Rep. Burgin, to fill his unexpired term.
Her selection came unanimously on the fifth ballot after six other candidates were in the running in the early ballots.
A native of Morven, North Carolina, Miss Pratt for years has been an unofficial teacher who trained new congressional secretaries. She first served as secretary to the late Rep. W. L. Hammer from 1924 to 1930.
