Iraq at war with Axis
Baghdad, Iraq (UP) –
Prime Minister Nuri al-Said announced in Parliament today that Iraq had recognized a state of war with the Axis powers.
Iraq, lying between the Palestine-Syria coast and Iran, a key Middle Eastern territory touching Turkey on the north, has been allied with Britain since its constitution as a state after the last World War. Germany tried to grab it in 1941 but failed and the alliance with Britain was reaffirmed.
