How did US “troops of color” and “white” troops get along in the UK

Hi, I also wonder whether their instruction welcome film made a difference.
It features Major General John C. H. Lee, head of US Army Services and Supplies, discussing racial segregation and equality (source, Sand and Steel from Peter Craddick-Adams)

Below is the slow paced but very touching instruction film which also shows the effect of the income difference and explains to US servicemen not to inadvertently abuse the hospitality of the locals by eg eating the rations of the full week. The locals wanted to keep up appearances despite their hardship.

Well worth the watch and some of the advice still holds true. Oh and Bob Hope has a cameo too.

Kudos to Peter for including this in his book.

Not all that well. The book “Masters of the Air” briefly talks about a riot that broke out between white MPs and black support troops but I don’t remember the exact details.
