Holy Land Jews rush to join armed forces

Jerusalem (UP) –
Holy Land Jews, many of them refugees from Germany and German-conquered lands, are grimly resolved to stay and fight for their homes if the Axis legions smashing into Egypt, only 700 miles away, reach here.

Leading members of the Jewish agency and other large Jewish organizations said today they realize the growing danger to Palestine, but have no intention of trying to withdraw to safety.

The crisis in Egypt has spurred more men than ever to join the armed forces. Young men graduating from high schools this summer have signed up for a year of national service, which means either joining the auxiliary police or tilling the soil. Young girls are similarly engaging in the war effort.

Jews labor amicably beside Arabs in turning out mess tins, boots, razor blades and a thousand and one other articles used by the armed forces.
