HAYS DENIES MOVIES INCITE U.S. TO WAR

New York, Jan. 17 –
Will H. Hays, president of the Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America, yesterday denied charges by Senator Burton K. Wheeler (D-MT) that the motion picture industry is inciting the American people to war.

Mr. Hays made public a letter he sent to Senator Wheeler contradicting the Senator’s charge that the film industry is conducting a propaganda campaign to involve the United States in war.

The facts utterly deny the merit of such charges. In some instances, the same films which individual critics have charged were “too militaristic” were actually banned by foreign government censors as “anti-militaristic.”
