I know this is more about WW1. But it is something that has been bothering me for years, and I cant find an answer anywhere. The British changed the name of German Shepherd to Alsatian because Germany was the enemy. Alsatian is the name of the people who live in Alsace. Was the decision to chose the new name an in-joke, or a dig at the Germans. Also was there any effort to change the name in America.
