GASOLINE AND OIL RATIONS DUE SEPT. 2

New York, July 30 (UP) –
Some form of gasoline and oil rationing for Eastern states will begin Sept. 2, it was learned authoritatively today.

The Petroleum Marketers Committee for the First District, which covers the Eastern states and which has been meeting in New York for the past week, has reached a tentative agreement which will bring about the 30% reduction in petroleum products requested by Secretary of the Interior Harold L. Ickes, oil coordinator.

The committee, of which John A. Brown, head of Socony Vacuum, is chairman, was agreed to take one of two steps:

Close all gasoline stations from 7 p.m. Saturday until the following Monday morning, or, issue script cards to all auto owners.

It is believed the second alternative will be adopted. The issuance of the script would be handled by state auto bureaus.
