Five children burn

FAYETTEVILLE, West Virginia (AP) – Five of the 10 children of Mr. and Mrs. George Sodder were burned to death today when a fire destroyed their two-story frame home two miles north of Fayetteville, State Trooper F. E. Springer reported.

The victims, ranging in age from six to 15 years, were trapped on the top floor of their home despite the frantic efforts of their parents and other brothers and sisters to rescue them.

W. Virginia fire kills 5 children

FAYETTEVILLE, West Virginia (UP) – Five of the 10 children of Mr. and Mrs. George Sodder were burned to death in an early Christmas morning fire which leveled their home two miles north of here.

The parents and four other brothers and sisters fled to safety in night clothing when the flames broke out in the two-story frame structure. The father was taken to a hospital here for treatment of lacerations suffered in a futile attempt to save his children.

The five children were trapped on the top floor of the home.
