Election 1940: McNary — New Dealers' Farm Plan a Failure (10-16-40)

NEW DEALERS’ FARM PLAN CALLED FAILURE
Hutchison, Kansas, Oct. 16 (UP) –

Senator Charles L. McNary today invaded the Wheat Belt – the nation’s breadbasket – to accuse the Roosevelt administration of failure to solve farm problems.

The Republican vice presidential nominee made this his first stop in a campaign swing through Kansas, Oklahoma, and Missouri.

The administration, he contended, has attempted to solve the farm problem by spending vast sums of money, most of which will have to be repaid by the farmers themselves. However, he reminded his listeners that he believed in parity payments and soil conservation benefits.
